Yesterday, July 6, I found two Monarch caterpillars in Kunkletown, PA. They were on common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca). I have also seen several adult Monarchs flying around the field were I found the caterpillars.
In the next few weeks, many more Monarch caterpillars will emerge, along with another cool milkweed caterpillar, the Milkweed Tussock Moth.
The Adopt-a-Monarch program, run by the Lehigh Gap Nature Center (www.lgnc.org), is a way for nature lovers to connect with the outdoors. As well as connecting people, the Adopt-a-Monarch program will connect the Lehigh Gap Nature Center with people and refuges around the world. With a donation of $5, anyone can help study the migration of monarchs along their journey to Mexico. For more information about the program or how to donate, send an email to monarch@lgnc.org
