caterpillars

As I stated in my previous post, Monarch caterpillars have emerged on some milkweed in Kunkletown, Pennsylvania.  Today I checked the milkweed around the Osprey House at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center and found no larvae.

Here is a photo of one of the caterpillars that I discovered yesterday:

Monarch caterpillars have emerged!

Yesterday, July 6, I found two Monarch caterpillars in Kunkletown, PA.  They were on common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca).  I have also seen several adult Monarchs flying around the field were I found the caterpillars.

In the next few weeks, many more Monarch caterpillars will emerge, along with another cool milkweed caterpillar, the Milkweed Tussock Moth.
